Albania is beautiful mountainous country located along shores of Adriatic and Ionian Seas. The beautiful people of this land want to graze goats, make tasty cheese and drink good vine. But bad communists shepherd them into underground and had ordered them to make weapon.
Well, what a joy to sit in a bunker? After Albanian dictator Enver Hoxha died, the huge militarization of the country started to show up. From more than 70 000 easy bunkers to super massive underground aircraft bases, military plants etc. Also we found underground submarine base.
Next to small town Porto Palermo inside rock was built a huge service and repair shelter for submarines and torpedo boats.
The view to beautiful rocky coast of Albania.
The giant blast-resistant gate shuts down North entrance to main tunnel.
The massiveness of this gate is impressive. Iron frame filled by concrete.
The tunnel goes deep inside rock. Both sides are walkable, left one has narrow-gauge railway.
In this place tunnel became wider to alloud boats go in different directions. In this pic you can see that main part of canal is more deep.
Weak iron overpass goes along wall. The construction too much rusty and dangerous for walk.
There are lot of additional tunnels and recess.
Gantry crane for repairs or loading ammunition.
We decided to stay overnight inside base because temperature inside was much warmer than cold winter wind outside.
The blast resistant gate of the southern entrance. You can see warship behind, seems like military area outside is not completely abandoned. We also saw some guys with ak-47.
Footing for one more South gate which was not completed.
This frame seems to be a crane holder to lift boats from the water for underbody repair.
The colour of water is amazing!
This two flours building was a locksmith workshops. Inside you can find the remains of tables and equipment.
In this place begins the tunnel to the arches for torpedoes and rockets.
Everywhere is the same tech of doors construction. They filled by concrete.
The torpedo arsenal ceiling is covered by plastic.
Colorful! Looks like trade mall instead of military base.
The tunnel between the arsenals is equipped with a narrow-gauge railway and has the same concrete-filling doors.
In general, the underground base shelter has a fairly simple layout.
1. Torpedo and rocket arsenals.
2. Administrative and command block with rooms.
3. Locksmiths in a two-story building.
