Wear pants with a belt and bring a strap or cord with you. During the tour, we provide special rubber boots (galoshes) that you wear over your shoes and tie with laces to your waist so that they don’t slip off. It’s super convenient because you don’t need to change your comfortable footwear.
Be prepared to overcome obstacles, so dress in clothing that you don’t mind getting slightly dirty and allows for easy movement. This means that high heels, open-toe shoes, long coats, dresses, and skirts are not suitable for this activity.
You can bring a backpack on this tour and put change of clothes or outerwear in it. The temperature in the tunnels is approximately +19 degrees Celsius.
Claustrophobia and nyctophobia.
If you suffer from a fear of enclosed spaces or darkness, most of our tours are not suitable for you.
Average physical condition.
Our tour routes can be completed by an average person without special training. However, since the underground route involves overcoming obstacles, your physical condition should allow you to: crawl through a regular round hatch, climb a vertical ladder, and walk “duck-style” for 50 meters. If you have difficulty moving on the street or require special assistance, our tours are unfortunately not suitable for you.
Certain health issues.
If you have problems with your lower back or spine, knees, or musculoskeletal system, or if you have stage 3 hypertension, we advise against participating in our tours. Also, if you are pregnant, we are delighted for you, but it’s better to refrain from overcoming underground obstacles.
Children under 7 years old.
Unfortunately, children under 7 years old are too young for underground explorations. The first reason is that we simply do not have the equipment for such young adventurers. The second reason is that when a group of 20 people gathers, younger participants create certain difficulties in conducting underground routes. If you still have a strong desire to visit the underground with your whole family, it is possible to arrange an individual tour. Please contact us at info@urbextour.com.
Please note that we reserve the right to refuse a participant from taking part in the tour at any time and without providing reasons.
Conducting an excursion to the Underground Podil depends on the amount of precipitation in the form of rain. If a downpour or rain is possible during your underground walk, we will inform you in advance that the excursion will not take place and offer to postpone your registration, or we will offer an alternative, no less interesting underground excursion for that time.
At Urbex Tour, over a long (since 2012) history of organizing tours, we have accumulated unique experience in organizing underground excursions, events and trips to “non-tourist” places. As long-term practice of underground research and accumulated experience has shown, only the flawless implementation of all precautionary measures allows you to safely visit underground objects.
On all our excursions and events:
the guide has a first aid kit and knows how to use it;
the group is always accompanied by a dispatcher who monitors the weather and the situation on the surface;
a chain of safe emergency exits has been developed and marked.
Tourists are taken only to one hundred and one times tested, verified and measured places.
You must listen carefully and follow all the instructions of your guide!
How long does the tour last?
All our tours last two to three hours, which is more than enough time to experience so many impressions that you’ll hardly know what to do with them.
Does it smell like feces there?
Our underground routes do not pass through domestic sewage tunnels. The water in drainage tunnels is super clean and can even be consumed. In underground rivers, the water is the same as in regular rivers, sourced from underground springs, and it also receives rainwater and melted snow from the streets. In some unpredictable cases, there may be illegal connections of individual entities’ sewage into the stormwater drainage system. If this happens, we report it to the relevant municipal enterprises.
I’m afraid of rats. Are there rats there?
Generally, no. There simply isn’t enough food for rats in the underground of Kyiv. Spotting a rat is quite rare and can only happen in an underground river. In drainage tunnels, you may encounter bats, but that is also an exception.
Can I take photos during the tour?
Absolutely! The underground areas are beautiful, especially in the right lighting. You can use any photography equipment, but make sure it is protected from dirt and moisture before the tour. Also, please keep in mind that you should not hold up the group tour. If you want to capture truly high-quality photos, it’s recommended to book an individual tour.
The price for the Underground Podil Tour start from 19 EUR per person if you in a group. In case we don’t have scheduled groups on your dates, you can order this tour on request.

UNDERGROUND PODIL TOUR
After seeing Kyiv through the eyes of diggers, you won’t be able to see the city the same way again! Our team consists of experienced diggers who have been exploring the underground for over 10 years.
A century ago, a small river divided Podil in half, flowing into the more famous river called Pochaina, where the Rus’ was baptized in 988. Centuries passed, and the place where the Pochaina River once flowed was transformed into Kyiv’s Harbor, while the little river that divided Podil was buried underground, where it remains to this day. On our tour, you will explore the history of ancient Kyiv, walking the paths of the capital’s diggers.
The Hlybochytsia River originates in the area near Lukiyanivka metro station and has two tributaries: the stream of Kudriavets, which now murmurs hidden in pipes under Kudriavskyi Descent, and the Kyanka, which springs from the Kyianivskyi Lane area in Vozdvizhenka. In the early 19th century, efforts were made to improve the dirty and neglected canal-like appearance of the river. The course was straightened, the bottom was paved with stone pavement, and the banks were fortified with oak embankments. Several bridges were built across the river. In the 1860s, the first section of the river was covered with brick vaults. That’s how it has remained almost intact until our days.
The Hlybochytsia River Collector is an architectural monument of local significance. Exploring this unique structure is the main purpose of the “Underground Podil” tour.
