Abandoned Command Bunker of Ukrainian Airforces

The moon reflected in the water-covered field as if in the sea, creating the effect of a “moon path.” With field dirt clinging lightly to our soles, our group moved toward the grove of bushes visible on the horizon. The wind rustled around us on the prairie, where, among the posts of barbed wire and ventilation shafts, an underground military bunker lay forgotten by God and men and buried in the earth.

The command-post bunker of the air defense and air force became unnecessary to the military and was looted.
Time makes its own adjustments, and such vast underground structures are no longer needed by the army. The military unit was disbanded five years ago, and the disgruntled soldiers stripped out everything of value. In the photo below is one of the two main halls of the air force operational command.

The entrance to the facility is a tunnel with a system of airlocks fitted with protective blast doors. The yellow “military” blast doors have a convex shape, which makes them more resistant to damaging factors such as the shock wave of a nuclear explosion, which they must withstand.

Many parts of the bunker’s life-support systems were looted by local security guards and former servicemen, who had quietly gutted the facility over the last five years after it was removed from combat duty.
